What is Nutritional Yeast and Why You Should Eat It

nutritional-yeastIf you haven’t tried nutritional yeast yet, you should! Nutritional yeast is specifically cultivated as a food crop for use as a nutritional supplement and to add flavor to foods. It has a deliciously nutty, slightly sweet and cheese-like flavor. This yeast is flaked for easy use and it blends especially well with liquids. Plus it is super good for you!

Five Delicious Meat Alternatives

vegan-burgerAccording to recent data from the USDA, Americans are expected to eat a record-high average of 222 pounds of meat per person in 2018. That’s devastating news for Americans’ health. To put it in perspective, studies show that eating just 2 ounces of processed meat per day – less than the amount on a typical ham sandwich – can up the risk for colon cancer by 21%. Another recent study found that just one third of an ounce of processed meat a day – the weight of a single poker chip! – can raise the risk for breast cancer. Dessert Tonight: No Egg Eggnog

eggnogI have never been an eggnog fan, until I tried this vegan version made with toasted coconut and blended cashews instead of cream and eggs. This healthier version is just as creamy and sweet as the traditional version, but in my opinion tastes so much better.

This egg-less recipe also avoids the issue of whether or not it’s safe to eat raw eggs. And if you like a less sweet version, omit the maple syrup. Or, you can even add a splash of rum or whisky for a more festive, adult drink! This serves 6 to 8, depending on the size of the cups you use. Continue reading “Dessert Tonight: No Egg Eggnog”
