Village Green Launches New Rx Advantage Program for Generic Prescription Drugs

Rx symbol-12Village Green’s Rx Advantage is a prescription drug program that offers select generic medications at lower prices without submission through insurance. It helps to minimize trips to the pharmacy for refills by allowing for the flexibility of a 3, 6 or 9 month supply. (Please note: all prescriptions need to be written for the 3, 6 or 9 month quantities.)

This innovative new cash-only program was brought to Village Green by our pharmacist, Emily Shewmaker, and it promises to be a hit with both our customers and area medical practitioners. In fact, you don’t have to be local to take advantage of Rx Advantage – prescriptions are welcome from health professionals in many other states, as well. This list of over 50 generic prescription drugs is being offered at a significant discount over generic prices at most other pharmacies (local price comparisons are here); a 3-month supply of any of these generic drugs costs $27, a 6-month supply is $42, and a 9-month supply just $55 – these prices constitute a flat rate for anything on the list. This program bypasses health insurance companies and pharmacy industry middlemen to save money for patients and self-insured businesses. 5 Reasons to Support Small Business Saturday on November 28… And Every Day!

small-business-saturdayThis year marks the 6th annual Small Business Saturday. There are many reasons to get out there and support local, small businesses! Here are five:

1. Locally-owned businesses create more jobs locally and, in some sectors, provide better wages and benefits than chains retailers do.

2 .Compared to chain stores, locally owned businesses put a much larger share of their revenue back into the local economy, enriching the whole community.

3. Local ownership ensures that important decisions are made by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.

4. Often, more diversity and unique options are available at local small businesses. Sure, the big box chains carry more stuff, but small chains offer items you may never find elsewhere, and you can frequently special-order items that they don’t usually carry. Village Green Apothecary – 50 Years Old!

18-VGA_50th
Marc Isaacson, Irv Rosenberg, and Gail Isaacson – past and present owners of Village Green Apothecary (formerly The Apothecary).

Village Green Apothecary’s actual, exact 50th anniversary date was November 22. So last Sunday, 50 years later to the day, we had a big party to celebrate this big anniversary and were honored by the presence of Irv Rosenberg, one of the original founders of The Apothecary. We’ve posted a photo album of pictures from our celebration – check it out!

How did we get to this point?

On November 22, 1965, two dedicated pharmacists named Mickey Weinstein and Irv Rosenberg opened a store called The Apothecary in Bethesda, MD. Their many years of experience in nutritional pharmacology had inspired them to establish a special place where people could benefit from the best of both traditional and alternative healthcare. The Apothecary was one of a very few pharmacies in the Washington area that offered an alternative approach to healing, focusing on improving health through diet and lifestyle changes, and nutritional supplements, rather than through conventional medicine alone.
