EWG Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen: 2018

fruit_brighterThe Environmental Working Group (EWG) has put out its 2018 report of the most pesticide ridden produce on the market, the Dirty Dozen™. They also have a Clean Fifteen™ list with fruits and vegetables considered to contain the least amounts of pesticide residue.

Strawberries nabbed the top spot on the Dirty Dozen list, for the third year in a row. USDA tests found that strawberries are the fresh produce most likely to be contaminated with pesticide residues, even after they are picked, rinsed in the field and washed before eating. What’s In Your Water?

bottled-waterThe World Health Organization (WHO) is planning a review of the potential risks of plastic in bottled drinking water after researchers uncovered particles in many major brands. Currently, there is no research to show that microplastics can undermine health, but the WHO says it wants to find out if a lifetime of ingesting these tiny particles might have an effect.

The review comes after a study that screened more than 250 bottles of water from 11 different brands in 9 countries. They found that more than 90% contained tiny pieces of plastics and on average there were 325 pieces of plastics per liter. Continue reading “What’s In Your Water?”

National Nutrition Month: Go Further With Food

canned-tomatoesIt is National Nutrition Month and this year’s theme “Go Further Food” was chosen because what you eat and how you eat can make a huge difference. Whether it’s starting the day off right with a healthy breakfast or fueling before an athletic event, choosing the right foods can make you go further! The theme also has an environmental perspective. Preparing foods to go further at home and within the community can have a positive impact by helping reduce food loss and waste.

EWG’s Healthy Home Guide

healthy-homeRecently, I wrote about my home renovation, as well as tips to make your home healthier. Well, the renovation is done, and we are happy that the chaos, noise and dust is over with.
