Vegan Power Crushes the British Grand Prix AND Wimbledon

WimbledonLast week, the power of plant-based nutrition was clear at two major sporting events. At the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton took the checkered flag, expanding his lead in the Formula One championship. Five-time world champion, Hamilton has been an outspoken advocate of vegan diets, not only for their performance advantages, but also for compassionate and environmental reasons.

“People say ‘Oh, I need my protein and that’s why I could never go vegan,'” Hamilton said in May. Continue reading “Vegan Power Crushes the British Grand Prix AND Wimbledon”

Series: Diet for a Healthy Pregnancy

salmon mealIn the last two posts about healthy pregnancy, I have discussed common problems during pregnancy and what supplements you should take. Today, I talk about my favorite topic, FOOD! Snack Today: Mexican Caviar Dip

bean dip smallerIf you want to be a hit at your next get-together, make this Mexican Caviar Dip! This is my go-to dish when I am asked to bring something, and I am usually asked to bring this. It is the recipe I get asked for the most. Beans, corn, lentils, celery and peppers all marinated in an apple cider vinegar and olive oil dressing.

The original recipe came from my godmother and has been tweaked to use less sugar and add fresh cilantro. To make this recipe super simple, you can use canned beans and corn, but if you have time and energy, soak the beans and use fresh corn on the cob that has been roasted and cut from the cob. pregnant 1Last week I wrote about some common problems many women experience when they are pregnant, and this week I am going to talk about what supplements you should take for a healthy pregnancy. Before taking any supplement, consult with your primary care practitioner.

Multivitamins/minerals: Take a high quality multivitamin/mineral with folic acid while you are pregnant to provide significant benefits for you and your baby. Continue reading “Series: Supplements for a Healthy Pregnancy”

In fact, a study  showed that participants felt fuller after including a fresh avocado in their dinners, even when they consumed the same amount of calories as usual.
