This year marks the 6th annual Small Business Saturday. There are many reasons to get out there and support local, small businesses! Here are five:
1. Locally-owned businesses create more jobs locally and, in some sectors, provide better wages and benefits than chains retailers do.
2 .Compared to chain stores, locally owned businesses put a much larger share of their revenue back into the local economy, enriching the whole community.
3. Local ownership ensures that important decisions are made by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.
4. Often, more diversity and unique options are available at local small businesses. Sure, the big box chains carry more stuff, but small chains offer items you may never find elsewhere, and you can frequently special-order items that they don’t usually carry.
