Small businesses make up more than 99% of all businesses in the U.S. and employ 47.5% of the country’s workers. In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community. 1. Locally-owned businesses create more jobs locally and, in some sectors, provide better wages and benefits than chains retailers do.

2 .Compared to chain stores, locally owned businesses put a much larger share of their revenue back into the local economy, enriching the whole community.

3. Local ownership ensures that important decisions are made by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.

4. Often, more diversity and unique options are available at local small businesses. Sure, the big box chains carry more stuff, but small chains offer items you may never find elsewhere, and you can frequently special-order items that they don’t usually carry.
