Q & A: Actress Mallika Sherawat Says Go Vegan to Fight Diabetes

vegan-food_a“Change happens through education,” says Indian actress Mallika Sherawat, who believes a plant-based diet could help fight India’s diabetes and heart disease epidemics. That’s why she’s supporting a Barnard Medical Center and Physicians Committee tour of 11 medical schools in India, where students are learning how to use the power of a plant-based diet to help patients fight obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

The tour, led by Zeeshan Ali, PhD, Physicians Committee Kickstart India specialist, and James Loomis, MD, MBA, Barnard Medical Center medical director, includes information on the Physicians Committee’s new Nutrition Guide for Clinicians app; evidence-based lectures; and plant-based meals and resources for students. Andrew Freeman, MD: A Cardiologist’s Plant-Based Diet Prescription

plant-based-dietNutrition was rarely discussed when Andrew Freeman, MD, FACC, FACP, was training in his cardiology fellowship. And his experience is not unique. A recent survey of about 1,000 cardiologists found that 90% received minimal nutrition education.

heart-disease-foodFans of the hit NBC series This Is Us finally learned how the beloved character Jack Pearson died, but did they get the full story?
