Insomnia Linked to Heart Attacks

sleeping4People who have trouble sleeping may be at greater risk of heart attacks and stroke. According to a new Chinese study published in the journal Neurology, people who struggled to fall asleep, woke up too early, or struggled to focus during the day because of lack of sleep, were 18% more likely to suffer from a heart attack, stroke or cardiovascular disease. The link between insomnia symptoms and these diseases was even stronger in younger adults and people who did not have high blood pressure at the start of the study, so future research should look especially at early detection and interventions aimed at these groups. Heartburn Drugs Linked to Stomach Cancer & Heart Disease

antacidsAnother study has linked commonly prescribed heartburn drugs to fatal health conditions. This isn’t the first time that research has shown that these drugs have serious side effects. Also linked to liver disease and kidney disease, it may be time to reconsider popping those antacids and looking for an alternative. The class of drugs that were looked at is called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). These are commonly prescribed to treat gastrointestinal conditions that involve an excess of acid production. Nexium, Aciphex, Zegerid, Dexilant, Prevacid, Prilosec, and Protonix are only some of the brand names that PPIs have taken over the years.
