5 Tips For a Good Night’s Sleep… For Your Kids

sleeping-childSchool is out and for many that means a more relaxed sleep schedule. However, just because it’s summer doesn’t mean that you should let your kids stay up as late as they want. Recent research has found that consistent bedtimes result in better health for most people. And if you are like me, putting my kids to bed later does not result in a later wake-up time. Even reducing sleep by 1 hour per night can affect your child’s cognition and ability to pay attention. So what can you do? Many Americans, when asked, put eating healthy and getting healthy at the top of their list of priorities. Continue reading “National Nutrition Month: Go Further With Food”

Vitamin D and Melatonin

sleepingThis week, as I’ve listened to newscasters talk about how the flu is taking over America, it struck me that people are getting sick, in part, because they are deficient in melatonin.

Vitamin D and melatonin have something in common. They both strengthen the body’s immune system. Their relative production in the different seasons should complement each other perfectly. But, in our world of technology, they are out of sync. Cancer and all sorts of other diseases can develop if an immune system doesn’t function properly. In this post, you are going to gain an appreciation for melatonin and learn what you can do to normalize your brain’s production of this important hormone. Continue reading “Vitamin D and Melatonin”

Welcome 2018! My New Year’s Resolution

family-mealBy the time you read this, many Americans will have already defaulted on their New Year’s resolutions and we are only into day 2! In our household, we don’t typically make resolutions (well, not on New Year’s anyway). We try not to wait until New Year’s Eve to try something new. However, this year I am making one. It is a simple idea but I know it will be challenging. Continue reading “Welcome 2018! My New Year’s Resolution”
