Answers to Commonly Asked Questions About Multivitamins

question-markI get a lot of questions about multivitamins ranging from wondering how important they are, to what makes some better than others, to what one should look for in a good in a top-quality multivitamin. Here are some answers.

Are multivitamins really necessary?

Micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) are essential for good health and support almost every function of the body. They help to convert food to energy, build and repair damaged tissues and DNA, manufacture neurotransmitters and hormones, break down and detoxify environmental pollutants and medications, and support growth and reproduction. 4 Supplements May Help With PMS

pmsPMS (premenstrual syndrome) is the name of a group of physical, emotional and psychological symptoms that occur in the last 2 weeks of the menstrual cycle, just before menses. Affecting four out of ten women, PMS symptoms can impact the quality of your life and the ability to do normal activities. While it’s normal to have minor discomfort before your period, severe PMS symptoms such as anxiety, moodiness, irritability, pain, bloating, acne, and headaches may be alerting you to some internal imbalances. While it’s not known what causes PMS, it is likely that changing hormone levels and brain chemistry play a role. Diet, activity level and stress may also be related to the severity of symptoms. The Calcium Challenge

calcium_kalesardinesI regularly get questions from patients about calcium. Do I need more? How much do I take? Can I take it just once a day? Should it have magnesium? Will it fix my osteoporosis? Lots of questions…

Well, I start by reminding patients that calcium isn’t just for bones. It’s required for muscle contraction, blood vessel contraction/expansion, secretion of hormones and enzymes, and sending messages through the nervous system. About 99% of your total body calcium is stored in bones and the remaining 1% is found throughout the body in muscle, cellular fluids and blood. It’s about 2% of your total body weight. If you don’t have a calcium-rich diet, your body will continue to extract calcium stored in your bones to meet your active daily needs. Continue reading “The Calcium Challenge”

Favorite Product: Pathway’s Full-Spectrum Digestive Enzymes

digestive enzymesOne of my favorite products for digestive relief is Pathway Digase. We do a lot of running around on weekends, and many times have to rely on eating out, which means that you never really know how your stomach is going to feel. Digase can be a lifesaver.

Digase is a combination of digestive enzymes that help break down food in order to make it easier to digest. When sitting down to a restaurant meal, I take a couple right before I start to eat and sometimes I even take two more afterwards if the dessert is particularly tasty.

You don’t have to save enzymes for eating out to reap the benefits of digestive enzymes. Taking one before each meal can help the digestive process. Some people find that their stomach becomes a little upset after eating foods like beans or broccoli. Pathway Digase may help ease some of that discomfort.

You can save 30% on Pathway Digase at our Spring Sale, through April 18!
