Favorite Things: Pathway Digase

There are many things to be thankful for this coming Thanksgiving, but one thing that I will definitely be grateful for is Pathway Digase. Why? Digase is a combination of enzymes that help break down food in order to make it easier to digest. Doesn’t that sound good especially after a BIG Thanksgiving meal? I take a couple right before I start to eat and sometimes I even take two more afterwards if I have seconds of pumpkin pie. (And who are we kidding, of course I have seconds.)

You don’t have to wait for big holiday meals to reap the benefits of digestive enzymes. Taking one before each meal can help the digestive process. Some people find that their stomach becomes a little upset after eating foods like beans or broccoli. Pathway Digase may help ease some of that discomfort.

So before you dig into your second helping of sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping (who ever thought of that?), sit back and take two Pathway Digase tablets for a more comfortable Thanksgiving meal.

And here is one more thing to be thankful for – Pathway Digase is 35% off right now!

So it really is lice season. After my lice blog a few weeks ago, parents emailed me with stories of lice infestation, and again, my skin starting crawling. One system that I heard about repeatedly was Lice Lifters. This company carries all natural nit and lice fighting products that are safe and VERY effective. In fact, according to happy users, one product in particular, Nit Nanny Mint Spray, can actually be used preventatively! There is an entire system that includes a treatment and solution to go after lice and nits if you do have an infestation.

Are Supplements Safe?

Every once in a while, a new study comes out implying that supplements don’t work or that they harm. One recent study says that supplements increase mortality.  I don’t believe it for a minute! Proper use of supplements is a safe and important aspect of our lives. Ideally it would be great if we all ate delicious, organic, whole foods at all meals and that we met all our nutritional requirements through diet alone, but the reality is that we don’t. So when a study like this ones come out, discouraging vitamins, it upsets me because for many people it’s the only way they get enough of certain nutrients like calcium, vitamin D and iron. If you would like to learn more about using supplements correctly and to find out what you need on a personalized level, contact us at 1-800-869-9159.

Here is a blog from Dr. David Brownstein. He has a strong opinion about this recent study, and I agree with him. What do you think? Continue reading “Are Supplements Safe?”

Favorite Things: Rescue Remedy

Oprah isn’t the only one who has favorite things. It may not involve giving away thousands of dollars worth of merchandise to our customers, but I thought our readers might be interested to know about some things that we especially love at Village Green Apothecary.

For me, this was tough because there are so many things that I use on a daily basis, or when I am under the weather, or when I need a boost, that it was hard to narrow it down to one. I may have to do a weekly blog about some of my other absolute faves.

Lately, my “go to” product, has been Bach Rescue Remedy, available in spray or drops. This little vial contains a combination of flower essences that eases my tension and soothes my worries. Just the thought of it calms me down. The great thing about Rescue Remedy is that it is so safe! It is taken when you are feeling anxious or tense. 4 drops on the tongue or in a little water can help ease your apprehension about public speaking, or flying on a plane. Now, if you have severe stage fright or you have to be dragged on to a plane, this is probably not for you. I like to think that it helps take the edge off…like what a drink may do for some.

I recommend this to people who have a hard time sleeping before any other supplement, because it is gentle and safe. If it works, then you have a non-habit forming remedy that can be used anytime. If it doesn’t work, we try something else. That’s really the only side effect!

If you would like to try it call us or stop by!

Chicken Pox Lollipop

No, this is not a new candy. This is a new take on the “pox party.” Have you heard of how some parents bring their unvaccinated kids to a house where another kid has the chicken pox, in hopes that their children will catch it? Well, one mom is selling freshly chicken-pox-infected lollipops to parents who want their kids to contract it.

Why would a parent do this? Well, contracting the chicken pox as a child pretty much ensures life-long immunity to contracting it again. Another reason is avoiding unnecessary vaccines. Parents who are against vaccinations or even a little leary of them think that this is the better option. Also, having the chicken pox as a child is easier and less serious (in most cases) than contracting it as an adult.

So should you try and get your child infected with those itchy red spots? Before you pass the lollipop, keep in mind that chicken pox is still a very serious disease, and there are deaths associated with this virus (although considerably less since the vaccination was introduced in 1995). Whether you decide to let your children contract chicken pox naturally, or you decide to vaccinate, it is a very personal and individual decision.

Personally, I am still up in the air about vaccinating my son, but I do know that I won’t be subjecting him to someone else’s licked candy.
