Multivitamins May Reduce Colon Cancer Risk

New research published in the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology (CJPP) has found an 84% reduction in developing precancerous lesions and tumors when rats were fed a high fat, low fiber diet, with the addition of a multivitamin and mineral supplement. Six groups were fed the low fiber, high fat diet and given different combinations of supplements and carcinogens that mimicked human colon cancer. The conclusion was that regular supplements of multivitamins and minerals could reduce the risk of colon cancer.

Colon cancer is the second most common form of the disease affecting men and women in the US, with nearly 150,000 new diagnoses each year. Diet and lifestyle choices play a large role in colon health. High fiber and nutrient dense foods are important in keeping the colon healthy. And now research indicates the importance of a good quality multivitamin and mineral as well.

Pathway Multi Two is a comprehensive multivitamin and mineral that incorporates the latest research on nutrient transport and interaction to enhance absorption.

An Easy Way to Cut 248 Calories Each Day

People who stay up late and sleep in late tend to eat on average 248 calories more per day than those who go to sleep earlier and get up earlier. Research published in the journal Obesity also found that night owls ate twice as much fast food and half as many fruits as vegetables as the early risers.

The extra calories can really add up to significant weight gain, especially if they aren’t balanced with daily exercise. An extra 248 calories per day can mean 2 pounds a month or 24 pounds per year.

So, the next time you feel you are up late and are reaching for a couple of oreos and some milk, you may want to rethink it and hit the sack instead.

Favorite Thing: Quantum Herbals Elderberry/Olive Cough Syrup

If you have ever had a cough that you couldn’t shake loose, that threatens to take over your nights and days, and is unrelenting… then you should have used Quantum Herbals Elderberry/Olive Cough Syrup.

My husband came down with a hacking cough about 2 weeks ago and it did not take long before it passed on to the rest of us. After 2 days of chest-aching coughs and sleepless nights, I’d had enough. I went through my medicine cabinet and found this little miracle of a bottle. After 2 days of swigging directly from the bottle, my cough became productive and began to dissipate. My husband could not believe how quickly I have begun to recover from this blight, considering he is still coughing away.

This formula combines effective and potent herbs (elderberry, olive leaf, horehound, osha root) with tasty maple syrup, so it is easy to take and one of the best respiratory formulas I have ever encountered.

Forget Robitussin – this is what you need!

Cheap is Expensive

Cheap is expensive. When my mom was alive, she always used to say that, and I didn’t quite get the impact of what she meant… until now.

With just about everything we purchase and consume, the idea of “cheap is expensive” applies. What do I mean?

Let’s take clothes, for example. Have you ever wanted to buy the more expensive pair of jeans, dress, suit, shirt or a great pair of shoes, but your practical side got the best of you? Maybe you reasoned that the price didn’t justify the purchase because of how infrequently you’d wear it, or you thought about the other more necessary things you needed to buy on your list, so you purchased the cheaper version instead. Do you remember what happened next?  Continue reading “Cheap is Expensive”

First Aid for Your Pet

Most people have a first aid kit that includes bandaids, gauze, antibiotic cream and alcohol. But if you have furry friends in the house, you should also think of their needs in preparing a first aid kit. Minor cuts and scrapes can easily be treated at home, but if you fear there may be something else, like a break, take your pet to a vet straight away.

Here are some essentials for your pet’s first aid kit:

  • Homeopathic arnica 200c is an excellent remedy for bruises, contusions, sprains and strains. It helps dissipate bruising and speeds the recovery time. This should be given immediately after the trauma.
  • Homeopathic hypericum 200c (St. John’s wort) has an affinity for nerves, especially in the fingers and toes as well as the tailbone. This should be given if there is any sharp trauma to the feet or the spine (for example, after a fall or if something sharp is stepped on).
