EWG Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen 2020

unnamedThe Environmental Working Group (EWG) has released their list for the dirtiest produce on the market. And by dirtiest, they are referring to fruits and vegetables that have the most pesticide residue, also known as the Dirty Dozen™. According to EWG’s analysis of test data from the Department of Agriculture, nearly 70% of produce sold in the United States comes with pesticide residue. Consuming foods that contain pesticides has been linked to a myriad of health issues, including cancer and fertility issues.

Keep Low-Carb Diets Out of Dietary Guidelines for Americans

dietary guidelines aPhysicians Committee dietitian Minh Nguyen, MS, RD, was in Houston on January 24 to warn the 2020 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) about the dangers of recommending low-carb diets in the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The DGAC is working on a scientific report that will shape the upcoming Dietary Guidelines, which are scheduled to be released in late 2020 or early 2021.

In July, Susan Levin, MS, RD, director of nutrition education for the Physicians Committee, testified before the DGAC. She recommended that the Dietary Guidelines ditch the dairy to help Americans fight heart disease, cancer and lactose intolerance.
