Lunch Today: Kid-Friendly Pita Pizzas

And full disclosure, while other kids in college were chowing down on ramen noodles and Kraft dinners, pita pizzas were my staple! The great thing about these is that they are easy to make, and you can put any topping that you wish on them. They are also the perfect meal to get kids to roll up their sleeves and help with meals.

I have found that the more a kid participates in helping prepare a meal, the more likely they are to eat it as well as try new things. Invest in Kids’ Health with Plant-Based School Lunches

plant based school lunchesThis week, 100 health organizations and experts joined together to share an important message with lawmakers: Investing in plant-based school lunches will save lives and billions of dollars in health care costs.

The group wrote a letter in support of AB 479, a California bill introduced by Assembly member Adrin Nazarian (D-Van Nuys), which would incentivize schools that add plant-based entreés and plant milks to their menus. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and although many of us know the dangers of the sun, many people still continue to ignore the potentially damaging effects of the sun on our health. The good news is that skin cancer is one on of the most preventable and treatable of cancers. About 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers and 85% of melanoma cases are associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. By raising awareness of the dangers of unprotected exposure and encouraging sun-safe habits, we can change behaviors and save lives.
