Visit Village Green Apothecary this Friday, July 31, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm to learn more about this radically simple skin care line, Evanhealy.
Evanhealy skin care was founded in 1999 by Evan Healy, a holistic beauty expert who created and developed her line of lovely, healthy products based on years of experience as a holistic aesthetician, and her refusal to use products that contained petrochemicals, exfoliating acids, ‘fake’ natural, or toxic, synthetic ingredients.
Evan’s products are handmade with 100% natural and organically sourced ingredients and feature labor-intensive, artisan distilled (in copper) hydrosols sourced both locally and globally from small family farms. Organic herbs and flower infusions are sourced from small, family-owned gardens and use wild crafted or organic, and/or sustainable fruit, seed and berry oils, essential oils (not solvent-extracted isolates) and rhythmically infused botanicals. Everyone wants soft, smooth skin, but unfortunately, our biggest organ usually gets neglected over the winter. Spring is the perfect time to refresh our skin.
Here are some spring skin care steps to help you get ready for flip-flop and T-shirt season.
1. Cleanse: No matter how exhausted you are at the end of the day, make sure that you wash your face and remove any dirt or make-up. Pick a cleanser that is gentle and effective, but most importantly, works with your skin type. For dry, sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, or aging skin, there are face and body washes that will fit your needs.
2. Exfoliate: Removing the dead skin cells sitting on the top layer of skin by dry brushing, or even just using a washcloth, is an important step in achieving glowing skin. It is important to be very gentle to avoid damaging your skin. For your face, look for gentle scrubs like MyChelle Fruit Enzyme Scrub. It gently polishes the skin using jojoba beads and refined bamboo stem. Fruit enzymes further dissolve away dulling residue for ultra-smooth, ultra-soft skin. And don’t forget your lips. My daughter made me a homemade lip exfoliator with coconut oil and cane sugar – simple and effective! Continue reading “3 Steps for Spring Skin Care”
On Saturday, April 26 come in to Village Green to meet the incomparable Sara Damelio, owner and founder of Skincando, the extremely clean line of skin care products that includes the very popular multi-purpose skin salve, Combat-Ready Balm. You can also get 25% of the entire line of Skincando products as part of our Earth Day Sale (through April 30).
I wrote about Skincando a couple of years ago when we first learned about Sara and her products and started carrying this line at Village Green. Read more click here.
This is Sara’s story:
It was 1998, and Sara Damelio, a college student, found herself in a skin predicament. Having battled acne since high school, she was thrilled to get a part-time job at one of Washington D.C.’s finest luxury beauty boutiques. She was in hopeful search of ending her problematic skin forever. To her disappointment, however, the unlimited access to top-tier beauty products only further perpetuated her existing skin problems.
In search for answers, Damelio discovered that many common substances and preservatives used in commercial skincare products are toxic and contain petroleum byproducts and parabens. Deciding to devote herself to learning about natural beauty, she became a licensed esthetician and after several years, an organic beauty specialist. You will never find parabens, phthalates, petroleum-derived synthetics, propylene glycol, silicones, synthetic colors or synthetic fragrances in any of their products.
