My parents are European, and as far as I can remember red wine has been at the table with meals. In fact, my father makes his own wine every September from scratch. Picks his grapes, squishes them in his garage and presses that yummy juice into barrels where it ferments for months before being bottled and consumed. My husband has also gotten into it and for the last 3 years has made merlot, cabernet and this year a red zinfandel. Needless, to say, we enjoy a glass of wine with our dinner or at the end of the day. I am a firm believer that there are many benefits in wine, and have written about them in a previous blog, but a new study published in the March issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine has given me yet another reason to enjoy it. According to researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, light to moderate alcohol consumption, most notably red wine, is not only good for a woman’s heart, it may also help her keep her weight in check.
