Having high blood pressure puts you at risk for heart disease and stroke, which are leading causes of death in the United States. The American Heart Association now defines high blood pressure as 130/80 mm Hg or higher.

Two studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine have found that healthy people who eat fish with omega-3s or take fish oil supplements suffer fewer heart attacks than people who do not have omega-3s in their diet.
One study called The Vitamin D and Omega-3 Trial (VITAL) found that healthy people who took a fish oil supplement suffered fewer heart attacks, particularly if they were African American or did not regularly eat fish.
