Did you know that you can have more energy? You can have better sleep. You can even enjoy a healthy body weight without forcing yourself to hit the gym everyday.
When your hormones are functioning optimally, your entire body works more efficiently and theoretically your body weight should be balanced. Hormones affect everyone including men, women, and children, both young and old. Most often we only associate them with women, menopause and raging teens, but this is far from being accurate. Every human being is well equipped with hormonal activity and when it out of sync, our health is at great risk. As a result of a lack of hormonal synchronicity, you may experience symptoms such as fatigue, sleeplessness, low libido, or weight gain. These symptoms are sometimes shrugged off as a process of aging, but it’s much deeper than that. When you discover where your hormonal imbalances are, you can uncover chronic conditions and support a healthier, more energetic self. A study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association last month, based on data collected for the ongoing federal Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), has found that women taking estrogen and progesterin had an increased risk of breast cancer. The women who experienced the greatest increase in risk were those who had a previous history of hormone therapy and resumed taking it as part of the WHI study. According to one of the authors, JoAnn E. Manson, “There was an 85 percent increase in breast cancer among the women who had used hormone therapy in the past.” This finding echoes results of other studies, that a woman’s risk of getting breast cancer increases the longer she takes the combination of estrogen and progesterin. Manson says it is not yet clear whether risk increases even more for women who stop taking HT and then resume it, compared with those who never take a break.
