5 Tips for New Moms’ Nutrition

Eating healthy becomes increasingly difficult when you have a little one whose needs seem to come before yours. However, taking care of yourself is crucial because the healthier you are, the better mom you are going to be to your little one. Here are some tips that may make it easier to eat right.

1. Feed your cravings. Be smart about it though – if you crave sweets, try a square of dark chocolate. An ounce of this yummy treat contains heart healthy flavonoids. (antioxidants that fight free radicals that can lead to heart disease and cancer).

2. Eat your water and drink your veggies. I got this great tip from a friend of mine. Basically, eat a lot of raw fruits and veggies, as these will help your body hold onto water longer. Plus you get all the great benefits from them, like fiber, vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants. This is especially important if you are nursing. Your body needs to stay hydrated to keep milk flow up. Drink your veggies by using a yummy greens drink.  This will not only keep you hydrated, but increase your chances of getting the necessary 5-7 servings of fruits and veggies per day. Fall Flavors: The Most Nutritious Foods You Can Add to Your Diet This Season

With the recent chill in the air, the shortening days, and of course the turning of the calendar pages, it is now undeniable: Fall is officially here. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, mostly because I enjoy cradling a big steaming bowl of soup in my hands, smelling the variety of scents that rise from the bowl, be it lentil, or beef barley, or butternut squash, or some other delicious soup packed with the wonderful vegetables that ripen during this time of the year. While I love all of the Fall foods, my favorites include sweet potatoes, pumpkins, winter squash (especially butternut!), apples, and of course, greens.
