7 Tips for Youthful Skin – Without Botox

youthful skinI was invited to a botox party a few months ago and graciously declined. I like my wrinkles… I do wish there less of them, but I am okay with that. Perhaps the main reason I declined is that I am not keen on someone injecting anything with a very sharp needle into my face, even for the promise of more youthful skin.

Whether you are against botox, or just plain afraid of needles (that’s me), there are many non-painful ways to make your skin appear more radiant and healthy.

Try the following:

1. Stop tanning. Baking in the sun is a sure way to get the leathery skin that people want to avoid. Wear big hats and sunglasses to protect your face, and use sunblock for extra protection. Don’t forget your neck and hands! These areas tend to be forgotten and can really show age.

2. Sleep. Getting insufficient shut-eye can age skin prematurely and, in the short run, result in dark circles and a lackluster complexion.  Continue reading “7 Tips for Youthful Skin – Without Botox”

Barlean’s Organic Oils Demonstration: Saturday, May 18 at Village Green

Did you know that as many as 80% of Americans are deficient in essential fatty acids? Essential fatty acids are required for good health, for the production of hormones, for communication between cells, to maintain memory and control body fluids. If your diet does not include sources of essential fatty acids like salmon or flax seed, you should consider a high-quality supplement like the ones offered by Barlean’s Organic Oils.

If you have wanted to try fish oils or flax oils but have been fearful of the taste, this is your chance to try the best tasting essential oil products on the market. On Saturday, May 18 from 11 am to 5 pm, Village Green will be having a demonstration of various Barlean’s products including, “World’s Freshest Coconut Oil.”

This is a great opportunity to taste test some essential fatty acid products and ask questions! See you Saturday.

Look Younger Now: Avoid These 5 Aging Habits

Recently, on a popular morning news program, the topic of aging was discussed. I wasn’t surprised that smoking and lying in the sun can make you look years older, but some other habits were a bit more unexpected. For many people, most of these habits can be changed relatively easily and will also help you feel more energized, in general.

1. Not getting enough sleep. Juggling work, kids and a personal life can take a toll on your sleep, but getting enough sleep is important. Research links lack of sleep to high blood pressure, diabetes, weight gain, and even just looking tired and older. Aiming for 7 to 8 hours sleep per night is about right for most people.

2. Eating too much sugar. Not only can a diet packed with sugar affect your waistline, but now experts also believe it can make your skin dull and wrinkled, too. Continue reading “Look Younger Now: Avoid These 5 Aging Habits”

Natural Lip Relief

My lips are taking a beating this winter. The dry, cold air was making them scaly, chapped and sometimes painful. Many conventional lip balms contain chemical ingredients like parabens and petroleum. (Look here to learn about why these are bad). Natural lip balms use safer ingredients and can help soothe those sore, chapped lips.

Here are some good ingredients to look for:

Hempseed Oil: One of my favorites. This oil contains essential fatty acids that hydrate the lips and both seal and coat the lip skin.

Aloe Vera: Especially good for wind-burned lips (think skiers and snow boarders), aloe vera can also ease pain and reduce inflammation.

Vitamin E: This antioxidant helps regenerate vitamin C in the skin cells and helps with collagen formation.

Sweet Almond Oil: A great moisturizer with antioxidant properties to help soothe lips. Continue reading “Natural Lip Relief”
