Don’t you hate when you start to feel that little tickle in your throat? It is especially heartbreaking when it affects your little ones. Well, researchers from Israel have found that a spoonful of honey may be the best medicine. They found that a 10 gram dose (about 2 tsps) of honey before bedtime in a group of children aged 1 to 5 helped relieved symptoms of the common cold. They believe honey’s antioxidant and antimicrobial properties may promote sleep and reduce those stubborn coughs.
So if your children are just not themselves because they are dealing with a cold bug, then try giving them a teaspoon or two of honey before they go to sleep. If you can, buy local organic honey. If you can’t find local honey, then I would recommend Himalaya Soliga Forest Honey. It is organic and is very high in antioxidants. Another great option is Really Raw Honey (available in-store at Village Green), a totally unprocessed honey that still contains pollen, propolis, honeycomb and live enzymes .
Please do not give honey to children under the age of 1.
