Detoxes, or cleanses, are recommended by many natural healthcare practitioners for a number of reasons, including weight loss, improving liver and kidney function, and cleansing the body. Usually they are done a few times a year. However, there are little things you can do to detox every day, in order to help your body run better.
Our bodies are constantly moving chemicals and wastes through our detoxification systems and eliminating toxins regularly. Unfortunately, in our modern-day lifestyle, there are often more toxins going in than our detox and elimination organs can keep up with. To help detox your body, and to keep it clean and functional, put fewer toxins in and support toxins coming out every day.
Take a look at your everyday choices that may need processing through the liver. Are you regularly consuming caffeine, alcohol, sugar or drugs? What about chemicals, such as pesticides and fungicides, or artificial colors, preservatives, and sweeteners in your food? How many chemicals are coming from personal care or cleaning products, or your couch or mattress? All of these things can add up to more work for the body, so try cutting down on unnecessary exposures.
Toxins are eliminated through the kidneys, skin, lungs and intestines. You can support elimination daily by doing the following:
• Drink plenty of filtered or spring water to help move wastes through the body.
• Include ample fiber in your diet to feed your good bacteria and aid them in moving toxins out.
• Regularly include liver-supporting and detoxifying foods in your diet: try cilantro, artichokes, chlorella, cruciferous veggies, onions and garlic. These are just some of the many foods that provide the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients required for the body to move wastes successfully through the liver. If you have a hard time getting enough fiber, a supplement like ClearFiber is an easy and convenient way to add soluble fiber to your diet.
• Take an everyday liver detox support supplement. The liver is the body’s main detoxification organ. Detoxification in the liver occurs in two phases: first it converts toxic substances into more water-soluble compounds, and then it eliminates them via the kidneys, bowels and skin. Pathway Liver Support and Detox features a targeted group of nutrients and botanical extracts that help provide the liver with important cofactors for normal, healthy detoxification.
